The Linguistic Journey Begins

Welcome to my blog!

I am a Polish and English Language communication specialist, based in London and this blog concerns not only the professional aspects of working as a Polish linguist and related activities and interests, but also my life in Chelsea, London – my actual as well as spiritual home.

When contemplating about creating a new and exciting translation blog, the title was a most important part of the process, of course. One day I stumbled upon ‘Six Degrees of Separation’, and which many of you will have heard about. It is the idea that we are fewer than six steps away from each other and that a chain of ‘a friend of a friend’ statements can be made to connect any two people within six steps.

Initially, I thought it was a brilliant name for a blog. However, what was the connection with translation? Then, it occurred to me, that we are actually just one step away from translation and its related disciplines.

At any time of the day, we see, visualise, listen to, hear, buy, eat, read – the list is almost endless – translated material. Such opportunities are endless and translation has such an impact on the world we live in – creating an individual, national and international identity, amongst many other things.

Globalisation and business fuel this need for translation and language services; there is one other major factor at play and that is our basic human need for communication and connection. And this is what inspired One Degree of Translation.
